Corvettes finish 1-2-3 in group 6 race for big bore production sports cars/sedans at Weather Tech Road America
Corvettes 1-2-3 finish is remarkable in a race heavily populated by Mustangs, Camaros and Porsches. Another epic battle bewteen # 46 Jody O’Donnell (big block) and # 33 Mike Donohue. # 3 Kirk Blaha (son of car owner Rick Blaha) showed real talent behind the wheel.
# 50 George Krass was among the top qualifiers in group 10. C5.R 003 is original Pratt & Miller with special 2003 Le Mans (50th anniv.) paint job. George like many others did not start Sunday’s feature race although the track had reportedly dried after morning showers.
The # 57 of Dave Roberts is almost back to original engine, drum brakes, wheel & tire specs to be done in time for Monterey Historics. Car was built by Jim Swan, a GM engineer in 1956. Bill Morrison, a prominent Corvette racer when the C3 came out, acquired many years later for vintage racing. He ultimately installed a porcupine head small block and disc brakes that made him tough to beat.
Josef Hoffman hauled his beautiful 1964 “west coast” # 3 Corvette from San Diego for a taste of vintage racing mid-west style. He finished a respectable 16th in group 3 for pre 1968 production sports cars and sports car specials.
John Rische # 81 and Matt Jensen # 15 are neighbors from nearby Sheboygan and regulars at Road America. They each race C3 Corvettes with SCCA history and are prepared to original spec. (ex Rod Harris/Randy Stafford and ex Darwin Bossel).
Michael Kehoe from Brookfield is a regular.
So are son # 5 Travis Pfrang (group 6) and father # 77 Gunnar Pfrang (group 10)
And Brian Morrison, son of Bill Morrison referred to above.
Thanks to John Lacko and James Rice for the great photos.
