Corvettes win Group 6, 10 & 12 feature races despite attrition at USVGP featuring Corvette marque

# 42 Peter Klutt won an exciting Group 6 Dick Mooney Memorial Sunday feature race.  Starting 9 th, he chased down leader # 33 Mike Donohue’s hot C2 and passed under braking on the last lap in the “toe of the boot”.

The large field for the first qualifying race was fun while it lasted.  Check video action courtesy of SVRA Ben Cissell.

Contenders like # 46 Jody O’Donnell, # 37 Clair Schwendeman, # 33 Bob Lima, # 13 Joe Riolo and # 17 Mark Rife shown above fell out.  Unbridled Enthusiasm might be one reason for broken rear ends and blown engines on the newly repaved track.

# 93 Jonathan Pfeffer (with his dad Robert) came from Indiana to win the newly created Group 12 race in his very original late iteration “Snakeskinner” C4 campaigned by Tommy Morrison’s Mobil 1team in the 1990-96 era of the World Challenge series.

# 4 Ray Zisa won his class in immaculately prepared 1990 ex Kim Baker World Challenge Corvette.

It was the first time at the Glen for # 27 Mark Horner & # 22 and Paul Read from TX in their well turned out C4 1988 Corvette Challenge cars.

# 90 Jeff Bernatovich C4 1990 ex Irv Hoerr GT1 silhouette tube frame Corvette w/358 cu in NASCAR type engine won the group 10 feature race and the all Corvette Governor’s cup race.

The All Corvette field was a spectacle even though it was down to 13 cars by on Sunday afternoon.   Youth vs age, # 55 C1 Bill Schwacke (manager of our facebook group page) got past # 4 C2 Bill Bogner at the end.

# 56 Tony Parella SVRA president & daughter Alison appeared on Franklin Street for the spirited Friday evening race re-enactment on the original Watkins Glen 6.6 mile course designated by the Feds as a place on the National Historic Register.

Tony and his staff once again staged one of the most popular vintage races in the country, managing to greet and say hello to just about every competitor.
