Trans-Am Road America

Doug Peterson keeps on winning as grids grow

Halfway thru the season at Road America, Doug Peterson has won 3 of 6 races or fifty percent.  He keeps on winning even as the fields are increasing.  The latest count of 23 Corvette drivers rivals the days of the mid-seventies.  That was a time when locals filled out the grids as the Trans Am came to race on their regional circuits. With more of this local flavor, the Trans Am has a shot to recapture the spirit and crowds the series once attracted in the past.

Doug’s Corvette and that of Tony Ave are owned by Larry Beebe and maintained and prepped by Tony Ave Racing. Tony Ave has rented his seat to other drivers on occasion leaving a for Doug a clear shot to repeat as Series champion. Doug’s main competition is # 23 Amy Ruman, Ruman Racing and # 59 Simon Gregg, Derhaag Racing, who are racing at all the circuits on the schedule.

Next race Mid-Ohio Sat Aug 16.

Scheduling Oddity: First time in memory both SCCA Trans Am and SCCA World Challenge sports car series at one venue on same weekend.  Trans Am racing sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing but is owned by a separate group.
