An act of Redemption helps Amy Ruman race at Watkins Glen
Amy Ruman in a Camaro finished 5th in the Trans Am after her # 23 Corvette was heavily damaged in pre-race testing. Suddenly, without warning, a car that had spun out and obstructed her path entering a blind corner.
The Camaro was loaned to her by none other than Tomy Drissi, a long - time rival who was disqualified for wrecking Ruman in a Trans Am race back in 2015 at Mid-Ohio.
Ruman managed to finish 26th in that race at a time when sixteen Corvettes filled the grid.
Compare that today with James Beaton, THE SINGLE entrant in his aging # 82 C6 Corvette - who was declared winner of the XGT class by default, even though his engine blew up only 10 laps into the 30-lap race. It might be time to re-examine the rules for an outcome like that, at least for awarding points.
Getting back from the bizarro world, the # 3 Pittsburgh Paints Mustang of Paul Menard, started 3rd and emerged the winner after heated battles with the # 16 Gym Weed Mustang of Chris Dyson and the # 17 Top-Liner Mustang of Adam Andretti.
