WEC at Fuji

# 64 Corvette is last after 6-hour WEC race at Fuji circuit

Uncharacteristic mistakes in Japan proved costly coming off a win in Italy.

Nick Tandy ran out of gas entering the pits because team engineers botched fuel consumption.  Valuable time elapsed as the crew pushed the car into position.

Tandy earlier served a stop and go penalty for driving outside the prescribed boundaries of the track.

The car handled well enough otherwise to keep pace with the competition.

The winning Ferrari # 51 A F Corsa 488 finished two laps ahead.

The Fuji International Speedway, upgraded to host modern Formula 1 races, is located about 2 hours southwest of Tokyo at the foot of Mount Fuji.

Tandy had previously raced there for Porsche.  Fuji was completely new to Tommy Milner.

Car specs, similar to IMSA’s GTLM class that was eliminated, remain in effect for the WEC GTE PRO class.

While the Corvette team reportedly drew the longest autograph lines, it was all but impossible for fans in the US to watch on TV (Saturday 10 pm-Sunday 4 am EDT) as the race started mid-day Sunday in Japan thirteen hours ahead.

The team directed by GM Sports Car racing program manager Laura Kluser hopes to do a lot better on November 12 at Bahrain, the last of 6 races on the WEC calendar.
