Forgettable outcomes at Mid-Ohio for 2 Trans Am Corvette Stalwarts
Mid-Ohio was a race to be forget for # 59 Simon Gregg, outgunned to 9th in TA, (17th overall) completing 41 of 45 laps; and for…
# 23 Amy Ruman – broken tranny for 12th in TA, (22nd overall), out in 9 laps just a few hours haul from home base in Munroe Falls OH.
The favorite was pole-sitter # 4 Paul Fix (in Mustang supplied by Tony Ave) until avoidable contact on lap 24 via botched wave-by Dave Ricci # 71 TA3 Camaro. Officials disqualified Ricci and put him on probation for the rest of the season.
The misfortunes of Fix, other front-runners, and racing luck opened the way for yet another win by # 98 Ernie Francis Jr, his 4th of the season.
Decked out to resemble the 1970 Chaparral Camaro, West Coast champ Tomy Drissi drove the # 8 TA Camaro for Claudio Burtin’s team.
Reminiscing back, Chevy honchos gave Jim Hall the nod after AMC offered the invincible Penske team bigger bucks for Mark Donohue to prep and race the Javelin.
Guess who came out on top?
