Perfection in Austria!!
Marvin Kirchhöffer (24, GER) and Daniel Keilwitz (28, Ger) qualified on pole both days and swept to victory in the # 1 Callaway C7 GT3-R on Sat and Sun at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg Austria.
Qualifying first and winning each race is a remarkable accomplishment none can recall in the history of the hotly contested ADAC-GT Masters Series.
25 of the 36 car field qualified within one second of each other.
The duo led flag-to-flag on Sat closely pursued by 2nd, M. Jensen / T. Schneider BMW M6 GT3 # 42 BMW Team Schnitzer à 00’’615 and followed by 3rd, D. Marschall / D. Bouveng BMW M6 GT3 # 43 BMW Team Schnitzer à 01’’213.
The Callaway team repeated on Sun followed by 2nd, M. Bortolotti / A. Caldarelli Lamborghini Huracan GT3 # 63 Orange1-GRT Grasser à 04’’281 and 3rd, M. Pommer / M. Götz Mercedes-AMG GT3 # 47 Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport à 07’’533.
Winning on Sunday required dealing with added ballast and as rain fell not stopping for rain tyres until the mid-race stop….and as always a bit of racing luck.
The double victories were witnessed by a crowd of 12,000 and captured the attention of top racing officials at GM with which Callaway has enjoyed a long successful relationship without the benefit of funding.
# 13 RWT Racing Corvette drivers Sven Barth (37, GER) and Claudia Hürtgen (46, GER) extended their lead at the top of the Pirelli Trophy table with another class victory.
Results compiled by Wayne Ellwood. Callaway Competition Europe leads the standings heading into the next races at the Nurburgring Aug 4-5.
