Corvette Racing Stayin’ in the Game at hot Watkins Glen 6-hours; first of 3 races in critical 4-week mid-season stretch
The # 4 & # 3 made a good start from row 2 leading both Porsches in an 8 car GTLM field. The Ford GT & Porsche 911RSR were favored over the course of the race.
# 3 managed to stay out longer between fuel stops which always helps.
# 4 caught a lucky break for a pit stop but later lost time to fix a brake issue.
At the 4-hour mark, the Corvettes managed to lead for almost 90 min to the delight of fans.
With 52 minutes to go, the lead ended when # 66 Ford GT Dirk Mueller was lucky to pit just before a caution. He easily held track position and finished first.
Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen made the podium.
It is the job of David James, the “master of logistics” to take the team across a now less friendly Canadian border to Mosport, the second of 3 races in 4 weeks.
