Setbacks at Sachsenring Shrink lead for # 77 Callaway GT3-R heading into finale at Hockenheim
Carrying and extra 20 kg # 77 Jules Gounon/Renger van der Zande finished 8th on Saturday.
Not bad from qualifying 17th, just 8/10 off the pole in the ultra- competitive ADAC-GT Masters Series.
Per Team Principal Ernst Woehr they could have been faster had they better come to grips with their tyre set-up (no pun intended).
The real setback came during Sunday’s race. According to reports, flying gravel and stones thrown up by wide-bodied Lambos penetrated mesh screens protecting the radiator that forced the car to retire. (see incident on video about 40 seconds in)
# 26 Sebastian Asch BWT Team Mucke AMG made up the most ground. With fifty points at stake # 42 Phillipp Eng BMW Team Schnitzer is Gounon’s closest pursuer trailing by 15 points.
Sven Barth and Maximilian Hacklander finished 14th on Saturday and 23rd (not classified) on Sunday.
For the 7th time in the 11 years of the ADAC-GT Series, at least 4 drivers have a shot to win the championship heading into the final race weekend where Daniel Keiwitz will re-join Jules Gounon.
