Trans Am Miami-Homestead

  • 1 Speedway Boulevard Homestead, FL, 33035 United States (map)

South Florida locals Ernie Francis Jr in Mustang, RJ Lopez and Daniel Urritia in Corvettes 1-2-3 in TA at Homestead.  Randy Kinsland Corvette wins against a Porsche 911 GT3 in TA3

RJ Lopez from Miami may stick to races close to home but has what it takes to run up front.  Finished a strong 2nd at Homestead against a younger driver in a newer car.

Winner 19 yr old phenom Ernie Francis Jr from Ft. Lauderdale is a force to be reckoned with, having won the TA4 championship last year.

Daniel Urritia, also from Ft Lauderdale was 3rd.

Gunning for the championship, the best Tomy Drissi could muster was 7th.  A rush to prepare after the cross-country haul from CA was evident.  His Tony Ave crew worked through the night to install a backup engine.  His race was then marred by an unscheduled stop for 2 tires to fix a vibration.

Randy Kinsland won TA3 from the pole (12th overall) in an intriguing matchup between the brawn of the Corvette and the agility of the Porsche 911 GT3 driven by Sebring TA3 winner Mark Boden.

Record qualifying speeds at Homestead/Miami were a matter of who benefited most from the switch to rubber by Pirelli, the official new Trans Am tire supplier.  Amy Ruman and newcomer Vinnie Allegretta qualified in the top 5.
