Quest for championship dashed by hard crash at Hockenheim finale
Entering the finale, the Callaway team had every reason to expect to win out at Hockenheim. Daniel Kielwitz and Jules Guonon in the # 77 shared 4 earlier victories, placed 6th on Saturday and were primed for the championship.
Then on Sunday things went wrong. The video replay seen by more than 60,000 viewers shows Jules making a real effort to pass a Lambo. There seemed to be confusion if it slowed up or changed course so Jules might have been caught by surprise. https://www.facebook.com/ADAC.GT.Masters/videos/1248831365137339/
The contact spun the # 77 and it slid down the inside of the track, hitting a concrete wall with impact at the next corner...maybe 100 yards from the initial hit. Jules is reportedly OK.
Ernst Woehr, Giovanni Ciccone, Reeves and the entire team can be proud of their accomplishments winning 4 times during the season. This team should strongly contend for the championship next year.
Remo Lips shown with Sven Barth won his second Gentlemen’s Trophy Championship in # 13 C6 ZO6 GT3 ex Callaway Corvette.
Lips has 10 class wins in 86 starts over 6 years in ADAC-GT Masters beginning in 2010. The RWT team is managed by Gerd Beisel.
Patrick Assenheimer & Dominik Schwager finished 7th
# 31 Whelen, 20th was piloted by drivers Maximillian Hacklander & Lucas Mauron standing in this weekend for Boris Said and for Eric Curran who won the USCR DP Championship at Road Atlanta.
