“Medallion Cars” at the Sonoma Historic Races continue under SVRA
Following rules laid down by Steve Earle, only cars prepared to original specs are accepted at Sonoma. These rules have been a good thing, by and large since 1974. They encourage more entrants by controlling the costs of building and maintaining cars otherwise built for all out performance. They also help preserve the look of these cars as when they were raced.
In SVRA’s first year at Sonoma, it has been pointed out that Group 6 Corvettes were not checked for stamped rocker arms, original style heads and engine displacement. That could change in the future.
Veteran West Coast club racer Bob Matkovitch raced the same car he ran in SCCA BP in the mid ‘70s.
Randy Peterson restored and raced the # 17 just as Gary Carlin ran it in SCCA BP and Trans Am in the mid ‘70s.
Corvette enthusiast Chris Springer raced the # 25 Corvette restored to Trans Am/IMSA specs as when raced by Larry Park in the late ‘70s.
Gregg Johnson races the # 8 Corvette originally run by Steve Elfinbein. Russ Uzes races the # 43 Corvette originally run by Bob Dye and Wilson Swilly, both cars in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.
